The purpose of this powerful picture is to make people stop smoking tobacco products. It is also making people aware of the dangers of smoking and not only what it can do to you if you continue but what it can do to those around you. The picture uses all three rhetorical appeals. It uses logos because it is known that smoking can lead to death and effect people around you. It uses ethos because it is sponsored by the cancer association which is a credible organization. The last rhetorical appeal used is pathos because it includes a child in the picture and that draws out strong emotions for most people. The audience of this picture are smokers and smokers with children or loved ones around them. The media used is visual. The style add to the purpose because it is dark and gloomy which gives off a depressing tone. The white sheet and name tags included on the dead bodies gives off the seriousness of what the outcome of smoking is. This picture can be adapted into a podcast or a photo essay. A podcast can be done with a smoker or family member of a smoker telling the story of a loved one and how smoking not only lead to their death but the death of a loved one. The photo essay can be used by going into detail just how bad smoking ius for you and show you the statistic results of such actions.
