Process Report
The name of my campaign was Socialize for Better Travel lives. The purpose was to give social media users helpful knowledge and tips about using social media for traveling. This includes finding deals, talking to customer service, finding things to do when you are traveling, booking hotels and flights etc. The three genres I created for the Campaign were a Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter page. The campaign had its own hashtag to connect to people around the web and the other social media sites. The hashtag was #socializeforbettertravelives. The intended audience of the campaign was social media users who ranged from ages 18-45, Frequent travelers either business or pleasure, travel bloggers, and students. These genres worked for the audience because they are all familiar with social media or use social media frequently. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter appealed to these people because nowadays everyone is on Social media interacting with one another one way or another. Especially the younger generations who are so technologically sound that its second nature to them and people who use social media for their jobs like business men and women, Bloggers and Students. I used all the rhetorical appeals with this project. I used logos when I gave them facts about social media and travel relations, customer reviews, and known tips. Ethos was used when the campaign was crediting or reposting something from a travel blogger or a specific hotel chain or airline. I used pathos to appeal to the adventurous and curious side of social media users. The campaign would post articles or stories from people who have traveled the world and want to share their story. This appeals to them because they want that adventure in their life too and they would be more likely to use social media after reading how much fun someone is having. I used my three genres as tools for this campaign because they are all social media based sites. I also used social media to find relatable content to post on the page and share to their followers. If people did not react to my posts I would simply try to relate to them more by sharing something that they previously showed interest in. Like someone wanting to book a hotel with The Marriot, I would make a post about something that the Marriot was offering.
For promoting the genres, it was easy. I posted the genres on the other social media accounts for Socialize for Better Travel Lives. So, in total, I used three social media site. This linked the genres together and made it easy for people to see it on different social media platforms. I also used my personal social media accounts to promote the campaign. This led people to start talking about it and the campaign spreading through the web. I used the hashtag on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The hashtag was most effective on Instagram and Twitter. I followed hotel pages, airline pages, tourism and travel pages, and travel bloggers pages to broaden my audience. From following these accounts, I gained huge numbers of followers because they saw that I followed and checked out the social media pages and followed them. I’ve been promoting these genres for a week and a half.
I believe that the campaign was effective because the three social media pages gained numerous amounts of followers and feedback. People interacted with the pages whether it was liking them, commenting on them or sharing them via their social medias. This shows people who follow them what they are interested in and lets other people consider the page themselves. People would start writing reviews on my post such as “this was helpful”, “I’ll try this next time”, and “Do you have any more advice?”. Composing the genres was different from Project 2 because in Project 2 I researched the ways companies use social media to help them become more successful in the hospitality industry. With Project 3 I had to research how the consumers use social media and how effectively they use it. I had to look at what sites they visited the most and what grabbed their attention the most. I decided to use social media because my entire Project 2 was based on how social media affects the Hospitality Industry. The social media sites I choose were based on research and effectiveness from the previous project. Obviously, Project 3 was more interactive because I could come up with original content from my own personal experiences, which is what the campaign was trying to do, but also share valuable information with the people following these sites. Project 2, on the other hand, was just regurgitating facts and data and connecting it to a common theme in today’s society. Project # was more personable and made people want to interact with it more because it’s easier and more interesting. Project 2 was challenging finding the data and evidence to support how social media can positively affect the hospitality industry. And how it can help people become better travelers by using something they have easy access to. The most challenging part of Project 3 was the creativity part and putting content in three different social medias that weren't so repetitive. Yes, sometimes the content was similar but never exactly the same. In fact, they related to other articles or topics on other social media pages. Before I began Project 2 I would have told myself to focus more on the consumers’ side of social media and traveling rather than the business side of it. I would tell myself to focus more on how well or not well people respond to certain social media posts. For example, do they respond better to posts, personal entries, shared articles, videos, links etc. Also, I would have gone deeper into the decision making of a consumer and what they look for when they want to book a trip and how social media can help them do that. This would have made it easier to relate all the research to content that I put on the pages. I really enjoyed this project because I got to be creative with what I posted to my genres. The tips were very helpful and I even learned some new things about how to be a better traveler using social media, it is something I will continue to use.
