Genre is a defined as either literary work, film or music having a certain content or technique. In literature, genre is based off of subject, setting, plot, technique, tone, content, or length. Genres include mystery, fiction, comedy, non-fiction , action, etc. Literature works can fit in multiple genres because some of the same components overlap and are in the works. There can be subgroups such as romantic comedy, action comedy, action horror, etc. In different literary genres the author uses different techniques to grab the attention of the audience. The audience can either be intended or unintended. The author uses Rhetorical appeal in the form of logos, ethos and pathos. Logos is logical appeal, pathos relates to the reader's emotional appeal, and ethos refers to credibility used by an author such as quotes from historical or popular figures. In the rhetorical situation it pertains to the audience, purpose, and requirements that serve to create a moment suitable for a rhetorical response. The writer uses different kinds of rhetoric writing or speaking including nature and disposition of the audience, the goal or purpose of the written work, Whatever else on the subject, and the state of the world outside the more specific context of the issue at hand. All these elements determine what kinds of arguments will be effective.
